The wedding photography of Josh & Paul, officially and legally took place in Sydney. “How does that work”? I hear you ask. “How can a same sex wedding of two gay men be legal in Sydney Australia” ? Well it helps if your partner is a British citizen, where in England same sex weddings are legal, then it’s perfectly straight forward to be married in Sydney. Simply hold your ceremony in the British consulate and you have a work around Australia’s backward laws.
But enough of the politics, lets talk about what this special day was all about. Two people celebrating their love for one another, confirming their commitment to each other in front of their closest family and friends.
I admire they way Josh chose me to photograph his wedding. Being a photographer himself, he was very specific with what he wanted. He could have simply found someone from within the gay community to be assured of acceptence. But I was honored he and Paul decided on having me cover their big day.
Josh & Paul are a perfect match for each other. Complimenting each others personality with such contrast. Josh is outgoing full of beans, makes you feel like you are the most important person in the room when he speaks with you. Where Paul is quiet and grounded with a warm gentle personality.
Even though the ceremony was conducted in a very business like nature due to being held in the British Consulate, you could still feel the warmth, emotion and love throughout the service.
Location photographs were held at Paddington Reservoir and the reception at Woolfies in Circular Quay.
The whole day was filled with laughter and tears of joy.
